Local President Report 2009
Hello Members,
The AGM is approaching quickly and your executive team is hard at work preparing for the closing of another busy year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each member of the Executive Committee and appointed members who volunteer their precious time throughout the year. Our Local would not be as strong as it is, if not for them.
On top of the normal running of the Local’s operations, meetings, and member’s grievances or conflicts resolutions, the executive committee has completed the task of translating the Local website, www.local70712.com, to French. We completed and announced the Local Hardship Fund aimed at helping members of the Local who may be experiencing financial or personal difficulties. This fund is in place to provide assistance to members in good standing of UEW Local 70712 who, for whatever reason, may be experiencing hardship that prevents them from meeting their financial or employment obligations. Furthermore, we have continued to make the presence of our Local felt at buildings that do not have any representation by meeting members and management, by signing up
On behalf of the executive committee, I would like to remind the general membership that the Local needs to increase its presence in other buildings where members of our Local are located and are still looking for members to act either as formal representatives (Building representatives) or as informal points of contact to electronically distribute information and notices. Also, members of the Local are encouraged to take a more active role in Local business and affairs. One way to do just that would be to sit on one of the many sub-committees, such as the Finance Committee. If you are interested in assuming responsibility in either capacity, please contact the Local. Our information can be found on the Local website.
I know our members have an executive committee that is committed to the solidarity of our Local. The executive committee continues to plan for the future and work towards giving forthcoming executives and members a strong financial and structural core, with innovative ideas, new methods of communication, and strong leadership.
